Regularly clean refrigerator water lines
Regularly clean refrigerator water lines
When we are maintaining the refrigerator, the refrigerator water line is always easily forgotten without regular cleaning.

Not that all refrigerators have water lines. If your refrigerator has a built-in water dispenser or automatic ice maker, your refrigerator will have a water line. The refrigerator water line is usually located on the back of the refrigerator.

If the water line of the refrigerator is used for a long time, it will also be contaminated with harmful substances or mold. When your refrigerator suddenly stops dispensing ice or water, in addition to the well-known need to replace the refrigerator water filter, there is also a possibility that the refrigerator water line is blocked.

So how do you flush the refrigerator water line?

Here are our general instructions for cleaning refrigerator water lines:

1. Unplug the refrigerator and close the water valve.
2. Remove the refrigerator water filter and empty the water tank. Clean the tank with 1 cup of vinegar per gallon. Rinse several times before reconnecting the water lines.
3. Your refrigerator may have separate water and ice maker lines, both flush. Find both and disconnect one end.
4. Let the vinegar soak in the water hose for about 10 minutes. While the vinegar is soaking, use a clip to hold the end of the waterline. After the vinegar has soaked, run the vinegar through the dispenser. If you have an ice maker line, make sure to drain the vinegar from the ice maker line with clean water, then reconnect. Do this before pouring the vinegar into the water dispenser.
5. Rinse your water pipes with clean water to remove any remaining contaminants or traces of vinegar. Make sure to wash your refrigerator with warm water and vinegar.
6. Reconnect the water pipes. Turn the fridge back on, install a new fridge filter (please don't reinstall the old one), and turn the water back on.
7. Run a few glasses of water through the dispenser to remove any residual vinegar. If you have an ice maker, process the first two batches of ice.

Different models of refrigerators have different cleaning steps, please refer to your refrigerator user manual or contact the refrigerator manufacturer for details.
